How to reduce the stress caused by insomnia?

I’m asking this on behalf of my friend who is some what suffering from insomnia and this is really affecting her stress rate. Her mom always asks her to sleep at 7pm when she isn’t tired and she ends up staring into mid air blankly in the middle of the night. And this is really adding to her stress rate. Please help by giving some suggestions >.< thank you.

Anyway you can not sleep! Then at least find something useful to do and the pleasure for having done something helpful to other people helps balancing stress.

Another good effect is that when you do something else than usual you might forget about your casual problems which do not let you feel how tired you really are. This is the best way to get easily asleep!

What´s the best home remedy against insomnia?

Please no drugs or pills, just home remedies that can help with occasional insomnia. Thanks!

Do not drink caffeine if you can possibly avoid it. If you NEED it, only in the morning.

Make sure your meal schedule is reasonable. Don’t eat past 7pm.

Don’t nap during the day.

Don’t look at a TV, Computer, or anything else very bright for a half an hour or so before trying to sleep.

Make sure you are comfortable in your bed.

Try counting. Just keep counting. To 5000, if you have to. If you make it to 5000 see a doctor.

Breathe deeply and try to clear your mind before sleeping.

Excercise during the day to release energy.

Some people read in bed and that makes them sleepy.

What are some natural things to help insomnia?

I have mild insomnia, some weeks I sleep well, and others I can’t get to sleep or stay asleep the whole week. By the way, insomnia is a hereditary condition that technically means "to have trouble sleeping". I try to get up at the same time, not have caffeine after 3 and I can’t figure out what helps me sleep some weeks and what doesn’t other weeks. What are some good natural (non-sleeping pill) involved things that are known to help insomnia?

Don’t eat dinner or any carbs after 9 p.m. it’s best to have dinner at 6-7…

Drink half a glass of warm milk before bed

Make sure your room is dim and cool, not too cold or hot

Turn you clock away from your face and don’t look at the time

This one works well Count Sheep…the idea is to bore yourself so you get tired and fall asleep

Take a nice long bath in Luke Warm water before sleep

Don’t shift around too much and get into a comfortable position.

If you can’t sleep don’t just stay in bed, get up and read a book or watch TV so you get sleepy and tired

No caffeine whatsoever

Get up at the same time like you are doing now

In the morning open all the windows and make sure you spend the day in a bright habitat and at night keep your room dark

You might need a new mattress or your pillow might need to be elavated

DO NOT TAKE ANY NAPS DURING THE DAY NO MATTER WHAT

And if these tips don’t work, and your insomnia gets worse you might need to see a doctor and then you might have to take sleeping pills

I cant say for sure, but the first thought that came to mind is that everyones body chemistry is different and that may be why.

Personally, I went thru years of insomnia until I found Ambien. Thank the good Lord for Ambien.

Abdominal Breathing
This is a type of voluntary control of breathing. First breath normally, observe the rhythm and then start your deep breathing.
- To start your deep breathing, lie down comfortably
- Gently put your hand on your stomach
- Slowly take a deep breath. It should be breath from the bottom of your stomach
- Now feel it with the air
- Your stomach muscles should raise up
- Slowly breath in it which should take about 5 seconds
- Slowly let the air go out and take about 5 seconds
- Continuous this steps 2 to 3 times in a row
- After the 2 to 3 time deep breathing go back to your normal breathing for 1 to 2 minutes
- Now you can carry on with the deep breathing steps again
- Repeat this deep breathing and normal breathing cycle a feel times

How do I find the right doctor for my anxiety and insomnia?

I have to find a doctor that accepts my insurance (Humana HMO) and will help me with my anxiety and insomnia. I tried going to the website and picking a doctor at random, and he was horrible, he didn’t help at all. I don’t have time to go doctor shopping, but my symptoms are getting out of control.
