Understanding Your Depression

Loneliness is a part of our lives. We have experienced pain one way or another but after a few days, it subsides. We move on and find happiness again. This kind of cycle is not applicable for people who experience depression. For them, hope is non-existent. They just bask in their sadness and cease to move on.

Depression or Major Depressive Episode according to Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM) is characterized by a feeling of emptiness, sadness, and irritation. People who experience this episode appear tearful or easily move to tears. It usually last for 2 weeks or more. Depression can easily recur if it’s not attended properly.

The effect of this disorder intensifies to a point that a person has trouble sleeping. Insomnia seeps in making it very difficult for a depressed person to recharge and relax. Hence, the symptoms’ effect intensifies. A significant weight loss or weight gain can also be observed. For some people, loneliness drives them to eat more, as a deviation for their feeling of emptiness. On the other hand, some lost their appetite due to their sadness.

The worst outcome of depression is suicide. This is the part where a person feels worthless that they would rather cease living. For the prior signs I’ve mentioned, its best to consult the experts for treatment. Most of all, for the state of suicide attempt. In this period, it really is the experts, such as psychologist and counselors who should take the lead.

For parents, teachers or guardians, being keen is a huge factor. One of the signs can be an indication of depression. To ensure the safety of children and the people you love, the mere attention can already alleviate the pain from depression. Sometimes, it’s the common question of “How are you?” that can save lives.

Does anyone know a natural cure for Depression?

I have been unemployed for about 10 months, not from lack of trying as I have been actively searching; I even tried local fast food places in which I was told I was over qualified. Well, my health insurance ran out and I am suffering from depression so my doctor gave me a prescription but I can’t afford to fill it just yet. I was wondering if anyone knows of a natural cure for depression, preferably one that does not cost a lot and won’t cause weight gain (I have gained 30 pounds since losing my job which only adds to the depression). The doctor even told me the pills she was giving me, Effoexor xr, can cause weight gain which I don’t see how you can end depression when you’re putting on weight, seems like that would cause depression.
If you know of a natural cure please let me know, I want my optimism back and I want to be depression free. Thanks

Honestly, in my opinion the best cure for depression is exercise. It creates all of those feel good chemicals that are in SSRI’s, without chemically adding them. PLUS, instead of weight gain, you LOSE weight!

I know it’s hard to just get up and do stuff when you’re feeling down, but honestly it’s the only thing that’s made me feel better when I’ve gone through bouts of depression. You could also try volunteering at a non profit, it will make you feel good about yourself and you interact with a ton of new people.

I know it’s not what you’re looking for, it’s not some magic pill to take, but living life as full as you can is honestly the best thing you can take.

Cure for panic attacks, anxiety and depression. Natural cure.?

Hi I have been having bad anxiety and panic attacks for over fifteen sixteen years now. I am in my mid twenty’s now. I had a bad childhood I think this is why I have these problems. I have lost jobs and was going to school but the anxiety got so bad it was hard for me to even leave my apartment. I do not go out with my friends anymore because in a social senting around even a few people my anxiety gets really bad it feels like I am going to fall over. Or I just over drink to get rid of it and then I will be depressed for at least a week after going out so it is not worth it. I feel that no one understands and my parents think I’m lazey. Please help.

If you’re looking for a non-medication approach the only thing there is is counseling. Not using medication, honestly, doesn’t give you very good odds of getting better. A combination of medication and counseling is the best way to treat these things. Especially panic attacks which will be vastly improved by adivan or a similar drug to take when you feel one coming on.

As for herbs and elixirs there’s no evidence that any of them work. St. John’s wart needs the chemical to be refined from the plant and put into a drug form to be effective. No ‘naturalist’ company has the facilities required to do this, nor are they interested in it as it would reduce the profit margin they get from selling raw ingredients. This is how almost all medications were created, actually, and anything that is strong enough to effect your body positively will have side-effects.

Is exercise really a natural cure for depression?

Medication and yoga poses can help you attack the main source of depression; the feeling that you can’t handle the demands of your life, says Alice Christensen, founder and executive director of the American Yoga Association. She recommends a daily yoga routine that includes 30 minutes of meditation and at least 20 minutes of poses, focusing on these four:dancer, windmill, knee squeeze and lion. These poses help improve blood circulation, she explains, making it easier to break through the lethargy that often accompanies depression.
