    Staying active.
Doing things for yourself that make you feel good, and need doing anyway, and yaeh, eat the right type of foods.
Foods that do not make you sluggish.

    Hi,
I had one and this is what helped me:
sports (regularly / best: every day), drinking lot of black tea, going for a walk, talking to friends about your problems, write your thoughts down and get some help from a doctor (psychologist)!!!!!!!!!!! Practice positive thinking!! Try to get as much sunlight or brightness in everyway (to produce as many hormones that making you happier!!)
    Take care

People hit on a lot of the natural remedies. You can go to happyplace.com for more information.

There’s a lot of research on exercise and depression. Working out increases endorphins, helps work out stress of the system and makes you feel good.

Also surround yourself by loved ones and accept those invitations to do the things you used to enjoy even when you don’t always feel like it.

There are no ‘cures’ currently, since it isn’t yet known what causes it. There is only management.

Proper therapy is the best option, and I would call this a ‘natural’ remedy! Medication, natural or otherwise can only take you so far – it can deal with the immediate problem and make you receptive to behavioural therapy but it isn’t a ‘cure’ – and there won’t be until its understood what happens in the brain to cause depression.

EDIT: All the suggestions are ways of managing it, but not ‘cures’ as you can see – plus anyone who’s ever suffered with depression knows that at the time you don’t give a sh*t about proper food and exercise etc – and you can’t promise yourself to exercise when you feel better coz you don’t think you’ll get better!

I’ve had my own struggles with depression and with counselling I can now control it and stop it messing up my life, but it’s never gone away it’s just something I have to deal with.

If you want scientific research on natural method for relieving depression.. Google Meditation and Scientific Research and you will find plenty of independent research.

Also Yoga is quite powerful…. but with both of these, PERSISTENCE is the key… and of course good food and health living. (some yoga links below in the "research" section). The first book on that website might be helpful as well.

You may wonder what this has to do with depression… but just try it and over time, you will see that it does work.

    Natural treatments for depression include:

Exercise: Regular and every day, even if just going to two 20 minute walks a day. Exercise increases the flow of serotonin in the brain and fights depression.

Diet: Eating better is a source to feeling better. Lay off the junk food and grease and get some natural fruits and veggies in your system.

Laughter: Find things that make you laugh. Treat yourself to them on a regular basis.

Problem Solving: Learn new problem solving techniques and find ways to apply them to your life. Resolve problems when you can and then let them go.

Leave work at work and home at home: Don’t let your problems mix and make that a life rule for yourself.

Just say no: To alcohol and drugs, Alcohol is a depressant and won’t help you.

Just a few ideas, but remember this; it’s not a bad thing to need medications for even temporary. You can do it without them, but if it gets too big for that, you should consult your dr.

Physical – Exercise more, Eat healthy and ENJOYABLE foods. Get in shape if needed.

    Social…Try a reaffirmation of life.
Get a new hobby, Go meet new people, Explore parts of your world you have never seen before (Maybe just down the Block). Reassess you believes and faith. Volunteer to help those around you. (you get more – when you give)

Mental — Right down all the good things in your life. You may be amazed at how many people your life as effected. and you can never know what your minor contributions to life will mean to the world. (example.. I like to imagine what Jesus’s GREAT,GREAT,GREAT,GREAT,GREAT,GREAT,GREAT Grandmother was thinking after a long day of milking the goats and saying "I will Never amount to anything, Why was I born" . Makes you wonder don’t it. :)

You should listen to the last 2 guys. They hit the nail
right on the head. Change your scenario. Agenda,
and get out of your comfort zone. Challenge yourself
daily. Stay around positive people constantly.
Reject the past. And embrace your future. Also
take care of your body. Eat natural, and light.
Strawberries, almonds, nuts, blueberries. They ease
depression, and it has proven to be so. Absorb more
daylight 2. Take a drive in the countryside. Relax
your mind. Get plenty of rest, too. And so much more.
It is what you make it. But doing nothing, will make
    matters worse……
