I have trouble to but its mostly when im at someone else's house spending the night.

I always listen to my ipod and listen to soothing music to get me to sleep. You could try that it might help you.
References :
Hello 'Me' - Julian has the pill right - over the counter melatonin. But take it for no longer than 60 days as your system gets used to it. You said it right "i can't shut my mind off..." And you do not have insomnia, or any form of sleep disorder. Just growing mind overload.

So you need to get your mind into sync with your body. To do this start a slow down routine from about 6pm each evening. No phone fights, no adrenalin flowing gaming, TV high drama.
Just give your mind and body a chance to slow down. Do homework a bit, read a bit, have a nice tel chat....Give the stress in your life a chance to slow down.

'Me' try the below 2 sites they are basic, informative and easy reading.
References :
http://insomnia-sleep-infomation.

Some of my recommendations, in order of desirability, would be:
1. melatonin 3mg or 5mg quick release,
2. diphenhydramine (benadryl or other brand),
3. getting up early in the morning and not napping at all. (that last one can be tricky, but if you can do it you should be pretty damn tired when bedtime rolls around especially in conjunction with one of the above)
4. Valerian capsules, your favorite tea, and meditation.

ALL of this is fairly mild stuff you can get OVER THE COUNTER. Your parents don't have to know.

Also most anything you take for sleep will act quicker if you eat a small meal with it-- your digestion system will kick in faster with food.
References :
experience

I was in the same boat - my brain would just NOT turn off! I kept thinking of random things - not worrying, just thinking. I tried about 5 herbal tablets and spent up big $$$ on them but they didn't work. I ended up getting proper sleeping tablets from the doctor, though I know that's not what you want to hear.

IMO, your parents shouldn't rule out sleeping pills. You don't go on them forever - only for a week or two so that your body can get back into the rhythm of going to sleep. It is a very bad thing to not get enough sleep.
References :
You need to prepare to sleep. No caffeinated beverages at night. No TV, computer or video games for at least 30 minutes prior to bed. I have problems with chronic pain and have not been able to sleep more than 4 hours a night for the past 2-3 years. That is using different sleep medications. I get better quality sleep when I prepare myself to sleep. Set a routine for yourself and stick to it as that will help you get, and stay asleep. Here are some tips I got from a website for sleep medication:

Prepare for Sleep

Establish a relaxing bedtime routine: take a bath, read a book, listen to relaxing music before bed.
Don't watch the clock—it can cause anxiety about sleep.
Get out of bed if you can't fall asleep within 15 to 20 minutes. Only spend time in bed when you are actually sleeping.
Write down concerns that keep you awake, creating a "to do" list for tomorrow. Also keep a sleep journal to help you see patterns in your sleep.
References :
sgtusafretired

Try visiting this site:

http://help-me-to-sleep.com/insomnia/insomnia-index.html

This site might help you as it offers suggestions about natural remedies and techniques to help insomnia. Keep researching the alternative cures/treatments e.g. breathing techniques because I think they will help you more than medicines like sleeping pills.

I hope I helped, good luck!
References :
http://help-me-to-sleep.com/insomnia/insomnia-index.html

Take a hot shower at night. It will warm your blood and settle your body. Try meditation and deep breathing, too.
