What are some natural things to help insomnia?

I have mild insomnia, some weeks I sleep well, and others I can’t get to sleep or stay asleep the whole week. By the way, insomnia is a hereditary condition that technically means "to have trouble sleeping". I try to get up at the same time, not have caffeine after 3 and I can’t figure out what helps me sleep some weeks and what doesn’t other weeks. What are some good natural (non-sleeping pill) involved things that are known to help insomnia?

Don’t eat dinner or any carbs after 9 p.m. it’s best to have dinner at 6-7…

Drink half a glass of warm milk before bed

Make sure your room is dim and cool, not too cold or hot

Turn you clock away from your face and don’t look at the time

This one works well Count Sheep…the idea is to bore yourself so you get tired and fall asleep

Take a nice long bath in Luke Warm water before sleep

Don’t shift around too much and get into a comfortable position.

If you can’t sleep don’t just stay in bed, get up and read a book or watch TV so you get sleepy and tired

No caffeine whatsoever

Get up at the same time like you are doing now

In the morning open all the windows and make sure you spend the day in a bright habitat and at night keep your room dark

You might need a new mattress or your pillow might need to be elavated

DO NOT TAKE ANY NAPS DURING THE DAY NO MATTER WHAT

And if these tips don’t work, and your insomnia gets worse you might need to see a doctor and then you might have to take sleeping pills

Try getting more activities in during the day. Go for evening walks, or jogs even. Get yourself exhausted. I’d also say try meditating, but lots of people think that’s dumb, haha.

Having trouble falling or staying asleep at night? Here is a technique that can help help. It is especially useful because you can safely use this method whether you are being treated for insomnia under a doctors care or not. However, since there are many medical reasons for insomnia you should see your doctor for a possible sleep study.

    Things You’ll Need:
    Pen and paper
    Computer microphone and CD burner
Book from library on self hypnosis
Medical check-up for sleep apnea or other conditions that can afect sleep

    Step 1

anxiety and confusion can cause sleeplessnessInsomnia is ofter caused from anxiety and confusion. Sometimes we just overload our mind with the cares of the day. It is often difficult to fall into a restful sleep until we can quiet our mind. Self hypnosis is often the answer and here is one way to accomplish this.

    Step 2

Pick up a book on self hypnosis at your local library. You should find sample inductions that you can recite, helping the mind relax and prepare it for sleep. It is also possible to find instructions on line by doing a Google search for sleeplessness or self hypnosis.

    Step 3

Picture your mind as a calm seaMake an audio CD by reading the suggested induction into your microphone . You can edit out things you don’t want to say and add things you want to include. the whole purpose if the induction is to instruct your mind to relax and prepare for sleep. Your subconscious mind will act on the instructions it hears, so keep telling yourself there is nothing to be anxious about or fear and to relax. End the induction by saying you are counting to 100 and the higher the count gets the sleepier you will become. Be sure to tell yourself that you will fall into a normal restful sleep and wake up in the morning feeling fully rested and alert.

    Tips & Warnings

there is nothing to fear about hypnosis. It is totally harmless no matter what old wives tales you may have heard. Your mind will respond to the instructions you give it and eventually fall into a normal sleep. There is no such thing as getting stuck into a hypnotic trance. Those are all made up stories. So find a comfortable place to lay down or sit and listen to your recording. Be sure you are laying down or sitting safely before listening to the recording so you dont get too relaxed on your feet.Talk to your doctor about your sleep problem to make sure you don’t have medical reasons for your sleeplessness.

Start drinking chamomile tea. Also in the vit.section of the store, try serotonin.
It could be that some weeks your not getting enough exercise or could find yourself having more stress from one week to the next.

I’ve suffered from insomnia for over 17 years. They have had me on Ambien for this sense 1999.
There are still nights I can’t sleep well, but I’ve realized it’s the times all I do is sit and not have much activity.
Also a nice warm, not hot bath about 1 hour or two before you plan on going to bed is suppose to help. A warm Glass of milk does too, but I prefer the tea. :-)
    Good Luck
