    Cognitive therapy. Read the book "Feeling Good" by David Burns and do the recommended exercises religiously and thoroughly. Thoughts control feelings. Change the way your brain processes thoughts.

    Medication, therapy, and bio-feedback. Bright colors, and sunshine. believe it not more people are depressed in the winter and at night. Dark rooms don’t help either. If you are against medications, then to cheer up, again brightness, daylight, sunshine, and not least, music! whatever your favorite music is, it actually helps change your moods. having a friend or family is a BIG help or a shoulder to lean on, but when not available, the bible, or a good self-help book could help too. good luck- and I use medications and do all the above, it has kept me going for years, instead of "why me" think of all the poor people suffering in places who can’t get help, it makes us thankful for what resources we have. ask your GP and get his/her take on what is best, you may need the medication, depends on how bad it is? you could also have a hormone in-balance, can cause lots of crying. need lab test for that. take care.     St.John Wart is one but I can tell you one that is like a vacation in a bottle! Its called l-tyrosine. It is an essential amino acid and a precursor of the neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine (adrenaline) and the thyroid hormones. It need B-6 and copper to really kick in. So I take that and a multi vit every day.

    ST.Johns wort is usually recommended for mild depression.Some people have said that SAMe helps with their depression.But in case studies,st.johns wort works a lot better than SAMe.

    You might laugh at this suggestion (pun intended), but I’ve found that tickling works wonders for lifting the spirits. The phrase "laughter is the best medicine" couldn’t be more right in this situation.

    If you want a proven non-drug cure i’d recomend counciling with a psycologist or psychiatrist. Exercise is also very benificial for depression.
