pmt, depression and menopause?
depression started for me 30 yrs ago with the birth of my daughter. Nothing has ever helped. Now im peri menopausal and the symptoms are BAD. I take black cohosh for sweats and starflower to help mood. Im also on prozac. My life seems to be one hellish day after another with an odd good day thrown in. Im not suicidal ,(today at least). i find some comfort in my spirituality. But weighing up pros and cons ive spent 90% of my 50 years on earth more mizerable than i could ever describe.
i think ive heard all the advice there is. dr,s are useless. if you can come up with anything new, pills, potions or other id like to hear it… no…im desperate to hear it
. thanks in advance
this is something that has crossed my mind and i believe you may have a point… but where do i go from here,?
I am where you are, but I am 43. I have bipolar disorder and am in mixed moods almost 100% of the time, which is hell on earth. I am suicidal very much of the time. I have tried over 15 different meds, also in combinations, and none of them have worked.
My psychiatrist told me to go inpatient at our university hospital. (university of minnesota). She said my case is a hard one. Your case also must be a difficult one. Universities also have outpatient clinics, so if you are not on your last rope that you need to be inpatient, that is probably the way to go. In a university setting, they will rethink your medical history and spend more time with you, plus you will get the young doctors with fresh ideas. Their will possibly be a team of docs who look at your case. The other option my doc told me was to go to NIMH the national institute for mental health in washington DC and she would arrange for it. I guess you go in clinical trials and they must give you housing and stuff. Anyhow, that is my suggestion – hit up a top-notch medical school for help.
I hope you get some help. I am in the same boat you are in. I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to navigate that area of town now that my favorite route is wrecked (the 35W bridge collapsed) and I live 3 hours away & get hyper driving now that I don’t live in a city anymore.
If I were better, I would be able to work harder at oil painting than I am now. I could learn to make more kinds of pies. I could help my husband on remodeling projects. I’m sure you will have a list to think of too.
So I hope you do look into going to a nearby medical school for help. The professors there are a LOT smarter than most of the regular docs you see in private practice.
All the best to you
What´s the best home remedy against insomnia?
Please no drugs or pills, just home remedies that can help with occasional insomnia. Thanks!
Do not drink caffeine if you can possibly avoid it. If you NEED it, only in the morning.
Make sure your meal schedule is reasonable. Don’t eat past 7pm.
Don’t nap during the day.
Don’t look at a TV, Computer, or anything else very bright for a half an hour or so before trying to sleep.
Make sure you are comfortable in your bed.
Try counting. Just keep counting. To 5000, if you have to. If you make it to 5000 see a doctor.
Breathe deeply and try to clear your mind before sleeping.
Excercise during the day to release energy.
Some people read in bed and that makes them sleepy.
Hope these tips help.

in a deep depression, husband won’t support me? thinks macrobiotic diet cures depression?
My husband loves me very much and wants me to be happy, but he is not understanding of what I’m going through. I am severely depressed mostly stemming from my infertility from my polycystic ovary syndrome. We have been ttc for 6 months and I have miscarried twice and had a chemical pregnancy. I am devestated and an emotional wreck, I cry every day and after I get off work and do my school work I just go to bed and lay there. He comes from a health nut family and he firmly believes if I would eat a macrobiotic diet it would cure my depression. I think its retarded. I came from a family who loves to eat out and cook big meals and I am a meat and potatoes girl, and my husband by all means eats what I eat, but he thinks that if your depressed you should just change your diet around and voila all better. So when I cry to him he has no sympathy he tells me when I’m ready to eat macro he will help me but until then he won’t if I won’t help myself. Its driving a huge wedge between us. Any advice?
Hello . Depressed Lady …
You think That Food cant change your whole life ?? , You Think That food cant change you completely into another different person ? …Its shameful that most of people who answered before me done even know that food is everything . Shame On Us Humans !!
Macrobiotic is not just a diet . It’s teaching you how to be a child again healthy and happy with the ordinary things you have..The sickness is your responsibility !! , If you are sick its your own mistake !! .. Of course Macrobiotic Can heal any disease in just a matter of 10 Days ..Completely . And if you doubt it just try it ..and start from the origin of macrobiotic the two masterpieces books of george Ohsawa ( Zenmacrobiotics, Macrobiotic Guidebook for living ) . There are Thousands Of Macrobiotic people who is living naturally and happily they got rid of great sicknesses like Cancer and diabetes . a real big list . there are many groups on facebook . people to help you and tell you their stories.. Macrobiotic is summarizing the wisdom of old people in simple eating and living . you will be shocked to know that all food you just eat is disastrous.. and all people around you are almost sick like you . You will be amazed that your depression just disappeared in 3 or 4 days once you stop white sugar and meat and dairy products . you will be fascinated to discover a new person in you ..you will be grateful for your illness that it showed you the hidden paradise in life..you are missing out very much as long as you are not eating the right food..trust me you need to learn what the right food is .. white rice that you eat is cancerous but brown rice can heal any disease you have in days . refined salt you eat is damaging your body cells at the same time that unrefined sea salt is absolutely necessary for our existence . you will learn that you are sick because we are all very ignorant of the order of the universe.. your disease is very easy to heal completely ..no need to surgeries and doctors and more pills and chemicals..believe me they are killing you and consuming your body ..If you want to heal your sickness believe me you must read the two books I just mentioned ..and don’t trust anybody else who try to convince you that your recovery is when you have a surgery or meet the right doctor or get the right bills…all this is not fair…sickness is a punishment from nature when we violate the great order of it ..and pain is helping us to correct our attitude..when you stop potatoes and McDonald and coca cola ..I promise you many things will really change in a very small time .. trust me I tried it myself..and thousands of people on facebook who made miracles through a simple diet of brown rice and vegetables .. Your husband will love you..and you will be cheerful and happy and healthy and vibrant …you will remember good memories again and you will look beautiful and you will be smart and successful in a matter of days or few weeks ..Don’t eat fruits and sugar and dairy ..and learn the unique principle of George Ohsawa ..And I promise you ..you will never even catch a cold again ..Depression is not a disease believe me ..its only suffering because of the food you keep eating everyday and exhausted your organs and made you out of balance..balance will be back in a matter of days if you only fast or eat simple healthy food …!! trust me ..I really want your help ….And im there for you
Is Invega also used for the treatment of depression?
I have anxiety and depression. I’ve been taking Wellbutrin, Effexor, and Invega for treatment. I’m really pleased with the results. I feel so much better and am getting back to my normal self again. However, I don’t understand what Invega is used for. I googled it and it said it was a anti-psychotic used for the treatment of psychizophrenia. I’m pretty sure I’m not psychotic, and I don’t have psychizophrenia. So, why was I prescribed this medication?
Invega is used for the treatment of Schizophrenia, but it can also be used to control Anxiety, Depression, and the mood swings of bipolar disorder.
Anti psychotics such as invega seroquel and others sedate teh individual among other things. This sedating effect can calm down the mind to where the person does not feel anxious anymore. Combined with other medications it creates a great balance to help.
There are lots of meds psychiatric and not, that are used for an illness or disorder that they weren’t made for at first. Good luck with the meds
how do I help my friend with postpartum depression?
My friend who has 4 daughters has postpartum depression even though her last one is 4 years old. I think she still suffers from her depression time to time – still on medication. I don’t know much about it but I want to help. What can I do to help her?
Hopefully she’s talking with a therapist who specializes in ppd. The therapist can put together a comprehensive strategy for her so she can recover completely. She will need specific nutrients to support her brain chemistry, good nighttime sleep, emotional support (that’s you!) and sound physical support so she receives regular breaks away from her children throughout the week.

whats a natural cure for depression?
I heard exercise is good for depression and I tried going on long walks but no I don’t think I feel any better.
It’s not really a thing you can "cure", it’s just something you have to be able to manage, or balance. St. John’s Wort is an herb said to have mood-balancing properties, it has a history of being used as an anti-depressant. But I think it should be a combination effort – yes, exercise, try the St. John’s wort, maybe take some time to relax or pamper yourself, or read a book, or whatever is a relaxing activity for you, and then just mind-over-matter it until it’s bearable. What I do anyway.
at what age do the symptoms of menopause begin?
I am only 43 but believe I may have some of them already. Are these the menopause or my previously diagnosed depression?
The current average age is around 51, however 43 is not rare. Age of onset of the menopause is often inherited. Did mum have an early one too?
What are some natural things to help insomnia?
I have mild insomnia, some weeks I sleep well, and others I can’t get to sleep or stay asleep the whole week. By the way, insomnia is a hereditary condition that technically means "to have trouble sleeping". I try to get up at the same time, not have caffeine after 3 and I can’t figure out what helps me sleep some weeks and what doesn’t other weeks. What are some good natural (non-sleeping pill) involved things that are known to help insomnia?
Don’t eat dinner or any carbs after 9 p.m. it’s best to have dinner at 6-7…
Drink half a glass of warm milk before bed
Make sure your room is dim and cool, not too cold or hot
Turn you clock away from your face and don’t look at the time
This one works well Count Sheep…the idea is to bore yourself so you get tired and fall asleep
Take a nice long bath in Luke Warm water before sleep
Don’t shift around too much and get into a comfortable position.
If you can’t sleep don’t just stay in bed, get up and read a book or watch TV so you get sleepy and tired
No caffeine whatsoever
Get up at the same time like you are doing now
In the morning open all the windows and make sure you spend the day in a bright habitat and at night keep your room dark
You might need a new mattress or your pillow might need to be elavated
DO NOT TAKE ANY NAPS DURING THE DAY NO MATTER WHAT
And if these tips don’t work, and your insomnia gets worse you might need to see a doctor and then you might have to take sleeping pills
