Is it possible for a mother to have postpartum depression beyond the childs infancy?

I have a friend who is 21 and she has a very jacked up relationship with her mother. Her mom has a very serious complex about herself and she wants to always be viewed as the nice 1 and the 1 thats most important and she has been this way sine her daughter was born. Is it possible for her to be still suffering from some sorta postpartum depression or is she just crazy?

The mother is self-centered and most likely depressed and suffering from low self-esteem, but not postpartum. She would probably benefit from some kind of therapy and a drug to even out her emotions.

    I think her mom’s a narcissist.

That’s not postpartum depression you’re talking about. She must be suffering from some mental problem.

I totally agree with the above answer, but if she is endangering her child in any way I would make sure that as her friend you make that baby first and keep her from any harm. It sounds like your friend is too stuck on herself and that could get dangerous if she starts ignoring her child.

It’s probably postpartum depression. But her mom might just be crazy you never know…

Postpartum depression is believed to be induced by all of the hormones around pregnancy and delivery. People don’t suffer postpartum depression for 21 years. It becomes regular depression.
